I-10/Cedar Avenue Interchange Caltrans EA 1A830

This project proposes to widen the Cedar Avenue Overcrossing from 6 to 8 lanes over Interstate 10 (I-10) in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County known locally as Bloomington.  The project will also widen ramps from two to four lanes and construct auxiliary lanes at the entrance ramps to I-10 and widen Cedar Avenue from Slover Avenue to Valley Boulevard.

This $40 million project also includes widening the overhead structure over the Union Pacific Railroad, just west of a major classification yard, and over two transcontinental tracks.  Right of Way acquisition will be critical for this project, as several businesses and a middle school are impacted.  Minimizing impacts to the local community is a priority for the County and a lot of time has been invested to make sure that is achieved.

Cedar Avenue is adjacent to several major trucking companies along both Cedar and Slover Avenues and the proximity to Valley Boulevard, a major arterial parallel to I-10 and is congested during peak periods on a daily basis. This project is in the Project Approval/Environmental Document phase, which is expected to be complete by August 2012.  The Southstar project manager has worked closely with the County, School District, as well as District 8 Environmental and Design Oversight staff to make sure that all issues are handled quickly and efficiently.
